Chamber of Industry of Catalonia published official statistics for the past year, which was very successful for the economy and industry of the region. Catalonia has become a major destination for foreign investment in Spain, namely for 52% of foreign industrial investment in 2013.

More than half of investment in manufacturing in Spain in 2013 was destined to the projects and firms, created in Catalonia, according to the data of Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of the country, collected by the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona. Official organization also notes that this type of investment in Catalonia reached the amount of 1.365.000 euros, 13% more than the previous year, and is the highest level since 2005.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, Miguel Valls, also noted that in all of Spain , foreign investment in the sector fell by 38% to 2,634 million euros. The second autonomous community of Spain, which has received a large number of industrial investments in 2013, was Madrid with 916.000 euros, representing 35% of the total, but at the same time a decrease of 63 % compared with last year's volume of foreign investments.

Miguel Valls stressed also that foreign investment in general , and their distribution within the country show “the change of the production model ” in Catalonia, based on industry and technology sectors, which are the two sectors which attracted more foreign investment. The manufacturing industry has focused almost 40 % of the total investment received Catalonia last year , followed by telecommunications and ICT sector , which received a total of 13.5 % of the total capital.

However , the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona also noticed that the foreign investment directed to the rest of Spain is very different in its structure , as in this case is dominated by financial and insurance sector , with a share of 23% of total invested assets. Followed by the real estate sector with a share of 12.9%, while the production sector received only 10.4% of the total. Thus, in the rest of Spain , the main contribution to growth was made by such sectors as sports , recreational and leisure activities , the insurance industry , financial services, transportation and real estate.
