Barcelona Airport “El Prat” received more passengers in August than Madrid   airport ” Barajas “

Spanish airports are constantly increasing their ridership. This summer, as it is in the month of August, increasing the number of passengers, as well as an increase in the number of flights, have been reported in all the airports of the country , according to confirmed dates by the National Association of Spanish Airports (Aena).

Barcelona and its airport “El Prat” are, according to the association, the main airport of the country with the highest number of passengers. In particular, in August 2013, ” El Prat” received and sent 3.9 million passengers, representing a 0.8 % increase over last August .

At the same time, “Barajas”, the main airport of Madrid, which in the last time maintains the downward trend of passenger traffic, registered 3.8 million passengers, which represents “the largest drop,” according to the National Association of Spanish Airports (Aena).

Total all Spanish airports registered 21.5 million passengers in August 2013. Such good data was made possible by, first of all, foreign tourism. International passenger traffic in Spain increased by 3.5% , with 15.6 million passengers exactly proceeding from foreign tourism.

Compared with 2012, several national Spanish airports stand out with a marked increase in passenger traffic. These airports are: the airport of Almeria, who “grew up” at 30 % in number of passengers, the airport of Santiago with 23.9 % growth in passenger numbers, as well as Granada – Jaen Airport, which increased the activity in 19.7 %. The airport of Alicante, on the Costa del Sol, also reported an increase in passenger traffic by 16.9 %.

Among the airports that have increased its passenger traffic in August 2013, it is worth to mention the Alicante airport, which received 1,167,000 passengers, and thus achieved growth of 9.4 % compared with August of last year.

This is followed by the airport of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands with a number at 538,484 passengers , an increase of passenger traffic by 4.7 % , Malaga with growth of 2.7 % ( 1.589.476 passengers) and Ibiza with a growth of 1.8% ( 1,162,967 passengers).
