Barcelona offers the “Wine Week” for the tourists

More than 20 luxury hotels of the Catalan capital will take part in the annual “Week of Wine “, designed to conduct tastings for all interested in knowing and the grape drinks of major brands of Catalonia.

Catalonia has 11 areas of production of excellent wines, registered as a «mark of origin» (DO) and one «mark of origin» of Catalan champagne, «cava». This “mark of origin” is a guarantee of the quality of the purchased product and represents the region of production of the drink .

In the past year, has successfully passed the first “Wine Week” in Barcelona , on which were represented products from certain areas of Catalonia , famous for its wines and cava . At this time the main purpose of the event – is to enter to the international market and attract the attention of foreign tourists to the local products of excellent quality.

The action will take place from 16 to 22 September in the 21 Barcelona`s hotels. All the hotels, participating in the action, have 3 or 4 stars.

During the “Wine of the Week” are planned 42 activities – Catalan wine tastings designed to familiarize lovers of wine and sparkling drinks with a wide selection of Catalan products of high quality . The price of visiting is 15 euro per person. The innovation of this year will be organizing the tastings of wine in English . “We want our national wine became known outside of Catalonia» – said the representative of the municipality of Barcelona, Sonia Recasens .

After the great success of the last year's «Wine of the Week», Catalan Institute of Viticulture and Wine in conjunction with the town hall of Barcelona, organized this year twice as many tastings of different wines. In 2012, the event was attended by 480 people, and were more interested people , which , unfortunately, had to be refused due to lack of availability.

This «Wine Week» in Barcelona will have plenty of room for tastings to accommodate everyone interested in Catalan wines.

Nowadays Catalonia is actively developing enotourism, because it has great areas of production of wine of high quality and is in the top 5 «mark of origin» (DO) in Spain.
