Town council of Barcelona will invest over 22 million euros to improve the lighting of streets, avenues and parks of the Catalan capital.
Already prepared plan includes the upcoming work to improve the lighting. In particular, it will be replaced 3,400 lighting points on 160 streets, and planned to make it all up to May 2015. New lighting will be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
This week at the official press conference the Mayor of Barcelona Xavier Trias announced upcoming improvements in the coverage of the city. These repairs take place at the 160 streets of Barcelona, with a view to give better coverage to residents and guests of the capital of Catalonia. Mayor noted that for him personally “priority is to improve pedestrian lighting and sidewalks of the city, as more attention is now paid to lighting the roadway on which vehicles are moving”.
In addition, the mayor especially noted that the upcoming repair work – ” it's a great opportunity for the introduction of new technologies”, as the new lampposts will also take over the function of the antenna and transmitter of wireless Internet access. Thus, Barcelona acquires new points of wifi connection. New lampposts will have two sections, one above the other to illuminate the roadway and pedestrian zone at the same time.
Deputy Mayor noted that these reforms are only the beginning of a complete reform of lighting in Barcelona, which is designed to last longer.
3,360 streets, which will be updated in the first place, only represent 2.5% of the total number of lighting points in Barcelona. And for the first stage of this ambitious project were selected the most emblematic streets of the city : Passeig de Gracia – central avenue with elite hotels and boutiques, Diagonal Avenue and Avenue Parallel – typical wide street with a variety of entertainment options. In addition, the lighting will be improved and the main tourist attractions of the city.
Through this initiative of the municipity, Barcelona will be brighter and even more beautiful!
