Commercial revenues of El Prat Airport will increase by 50% in five years

The main airport of Barcelona is going through a golden moment of its activity. This year more than 35 million passengers will use the services of El Prat, confirming the growth during the recent years. Big brands know it very well and, therefore, are constantly increasing their presence in the main Catalan airport. Since its opening five years ago, the revenues of Aena in Barcelona in the commercial line, including shops and car parks, increased by 50% to 150 million euros. It is no wonder, then, that the management company Aena continue and upgrade its activities in the new terminal T1 of Barcelona Airport.

Last supply of retail space at the airport of El Prat showed a high level of interest in the presence by large companies. “It's a great showcase for them,” says commercial director of El Prat Airport, Ruth Vilagrasa. The contest was conducted with great success – Aena has received 61 proposals for business more than 40 international brands – and therefore management company Aena received over 3,500,000 euros at the end of trading, representing an increase of 63% from the initial price.

26 renovated commercial spaces, occupying 2,300 square meters, expect to have a turnover of 45 million euros, increasing by 34% compared with the figures for this year. The list of stores represented at the airport El Prat includes brands such as Zara, Mango, Custo and Oysho, among others. “We maintain relationships with national and international companies. It's a formula that works well in practice,” says Ruth Vilagrasa.

Each company will invest an average of 1,200 euros per square meter to build your store. In the case of luxury goods stores, the costs amount to 3,000 €.

It is believed that on average, each passenger spends about 15 € in shops and restaurants of El Prat. Terminal T1 has 52 shops and 30 restaurants and cafés. Commercial revenues represent 24% of the activity of the airport of Barcelona.
