Continue the tourist records of Spain

Spain received 58.3 million foreign visitors till October 2014, which is 7.5% more than last year.

The main countries whose citizens visit Spain are the UK, France, Germany, the Nordic countries and Asian countries.

The figure of 58.3 million foreign tourists until October 2014 is a new record and an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year and 4.1 million visitors more than a year ago, according to a survey Frontur prepared by the Direction General of Tourism Studies of the Ministry of Industry of Spain.


UK remains the largest market and source of visitors to Spain during the first ten months of this year, with 13.7 million tourists, which is up 5.6%, and 23.6% of the total.

France, meanwhile, has contributed with the amount of 9,400,000 tourists, which is 11.8%, and therefore the country has become the second largest market for Spain, which brought 16.3 % of total visitors. Germany is the third market with 9.3 million tourists and an increase of 6.2%, which represented 16% of total non-resident tourists.

In the first ten months of 2014 the Scandinavian countries, the fourth largest market, increased their share by 5.2% to 4.3 million tourists, as well as Italy, which grew by 14.3% to 3.2 million people, and thus registering an increase during eleven consecutive months.

Among the regions of Spain, Catalonia, with an increase of 7.1%, received the highest percentage of foreign visitors in this period, with visits of 14,900,000 people, 25.7% of the total, and the additional contribution made by countries such as France, UK, Netherlands and Asia. In October 2014, the province had 11% more foreign tourists than last year, and 25.2% of the total.

Balearic Islands, with 11.1 million tourists managed to increase the number of foreign tourists by 2.4%, and thus strengthen its growth after declining in previous months. In October, the Balearic archipelago received 3.7% more visitors, especially from Germany, France and Switzerland.

At the same time, the Canary Islands received 16.2% of foreign arrivals to October, with 9.4 million foreign tourists, which is 10.7% more than last year.
