This ambitious project will create more than 904 jobs in the Mediterranean city and will be financed by "without a single euro of public funds," said the executive director of the project.
Currently, Open Camp Europe is one of Europe's most prestigious projects. Even the Segittur agency, a public organization of tourism and technology, considers it as "a project that has better chances of success in Spain." Open Camp Europe, the amusement park of sports, will be opened in the spring of 2016, and had many applicants among European cities. Eventually, the choice was made in favor of Barcelona. "Now we can say that we were negotiating the conditions for the opening of the park with Madrid, Andorra, Seville and Manchester to establish the project there," – said Paco Medina, the general manager of the project.
"In the world does not exist a large amusement park dedicated to the sport," – he said during the Fourth Summit of Tourism, organized by the IESE business school. "I can not understand why there are amusement park dedicated to Asterix or Smurfs, but not to the sport" – said the director of the new project. The 85 % of the project will be financed by funds from the Catalan capital and the remaining part with the funds from other European countries, Medina is proud of the fact that he did not have to ask "public funds or changes in legislation or any other tax benefit", as the other macro entertainment complexes did.
During the preparatory works will be paid 20.5 euro million during the first 18 months and will create about 150 direct jobs. "If we add to the direct jobs, also the indirect ones, the amount may exceed the 904" – said proudly the CEO of this project.
In addition, Open Camp Europe will offer activities at the facility, which usually was used only seven or eight days a year. It is about the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys. 42 hectares of land, which were exploited for large sports events or concerts only. The new amusement park will be open 230 days a year, as was reported on its official website, and will include the positive economic impact for the city in the amount of 121 million euros, as stated in the report prepared by the University Pompeu Fabra.
According to the general manager, the choice of location in the Catalan city, of course, will be an advantage, because Barcelona already is a successful and well-known brand. In addition, the possibility of opening "Camp Brazil Open" or "Open Camp Arab Emirates" in the future was mentioned.
