Inflation rate declines in Catalonia

The government of autonomous region has published the official statistics regarding the rate of inflation in consumer prices in Catalonia. Thus, the main result was that prices in January 2014 were down in Catalonia by 1.1% compared with the previous month. In spite of this, according to the inter-annual indicators, compared with January 2013 , the price level in the autonomous region increased by 0.3 %.

Also worth noting is that the inter-annual inflation fell in early 2014 in many autonomous regions of Spain, according to official data, the price index for consumer goods  declined, which published the National Institute of Statistics of Spain. Most active index fell in the autonomous community of La Rioja, namely by 2% , and in Navarra and Ceuta, by 1.8% in each of the autonomous regions . In general across the country, the price index of consumer goods decreased by 1.3%.

Throughout Spain the average inflation rate value of the goods that make up the consumer basket for January 2014 decreased by 0.2 % , which amounted to one-tenth less than the result registered in the previous month. Moreover, this decline in inflation in January 2014 was the largest among all of January since 1961, when was began the official government statistics. According to official news agency in Catalonia this interannual index decreased by 0.3%.

The consumer price index is an important indicator of economic development of the region and the country as a whole. It is also mandatory to determine the standard of living.

So in the case, with the autonomous region of Catalonia , more significant in January 2014 prices fell here on items such as clothing , footwear and accessories , namely by 15%. This was made possible primarily by the annual sales periods. In addition, services such as admission fees for cultural and recreational activities, as well as other services in this sector, also declined in January, but at 2.1% , according to official data published.
