Increasing flow of business tourism in Barcelona helped increase the number of new businesses in the city. In January- September 2013 were registered 5,425 new trading communities, which is 5.9 % more than last year. The total share capital of new enterprises was 607 million euros, up 110 % over figures for the same period last 2012. Thus, for every 1,000 residents of the Catalan capital there is 3.3 new companies in the city. It is the best result recorded since 2008 in Barcelona, and the best indicator for all major cities of Spain.
Barcelona continues to be approved worldwide as an excellent platform to launch new business projects. This is evidenced by recent economic data of the city, represented by the mayor's office advisor for economy, business and commerce in the Economic Report of the province of Barcelona, which includes the capital and the surrounding cities, with a total of 4.8 million citizens.
In addition, this report provides excellent data of the tourism sector of the Catalan capital. Tourism actually is in its best moment, and all travel indicators increased for 2013 for Barcelona.
Also in the published document is given a special attention to the cruise activities of Barcelona, though except tourist, economic and industrial center of Spain, the city is a major seaport of the whole Europe. Over the 2013 passed through the port of Barcelona cruise ships and their passengers increased by 8.4%. Also increased the total number of tourists by 0.9 %, the number of overnight stays of foreign visitors to the city increased by 2.8%, and travel expenses with credit cards increased by 28.2%.
