More tourists visit Spain

Spain has received more than 22 million foreign tourists in the first five months of this year, which is 5% more than in the same period of 2014, according to the latest official survey of tourist movements Frontur, published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism of Spain.

To be more precise in May 2015 to Spain came about six million foreign tourists, which is 6% more than in the same month of 2014. In addition, all major markets recorded an annual increase in the number of tourists.

From January to May 2015, the main market for Spain – the UK, which is representing 22% of the total number of international arrivals, and so came to the figure of 4 million foreign tourists, recorded an increase of 3%, followed by France (16%), with an increase of 8% till 3 million foreign tourists. In third place is located Germany (16%), which increased by 3% the number of tourists to reach 3 million foreign visitors.

The Scandinavian countries are still far from these figures, but nevertheless already represent 8% of total foreign arrivals to Spain. At the same time, this number continues to decline (-5%) and currently is about 1 million international arrivals, while Italy, with 5% of the total, continues to increase its share till 11% and up to 1 million tourists who were visiting Spain in the first half of 2015.

The influx of Russian tourists to Spain also continues to decline, with a drop of 28% in the first five months of 2015, up to 241.940 tourists.

Between the provinces of Spain, Catalonia, with a share of 25% of the total number of foreign tourists and an increase of 5% to 5 million foreign tourists, therefore it has become the most popular destination. The Canary Islands are located in second place with 21% of the total number of tourists and 4 million foreign arrivals (+ 0%). On the third place is situated Andalusia with 3 million foreign tourists and an increase of 7% compared with January-May 2014, and, therefore, this region attracted 13% of all foreign visitors to Spain.
