The main branch of the Spanish economy – tourism – continues to grow and develop, after records in many touristic aspects in 2013. It seems that 2014 could be even more successful for tourism in Spain. This week was published the official data on the number of foreign tourists visiting Spain in January 2014.
Already the first month of 2014 has become very successful for the tourism industry of country of the Iberian Peninsula. According to official statistics “Frontur” on tourist statistics, published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, Spain was visited by more than 3.1 million foreign tourists only in January 2014, which was 12.3% more than in January last year.
Foreign tourists continue to choose Spain as the place of his holidays, but during the month of January there have been some changes regarding the nationalities of tourists visiting the country, compared with the previous month of December 2013. Only one important fact remains common to all the countries whose citizens are traveling to Spain, namely , that all countries have increased the number of tourists sent to Spain.
Mainly outbound travel market for Spain remains the Great Britain. Number of citizens of this country, who have visited Spain in January 2014, increased by 9 %. Nevertheless , France has become the country with the highest growth percentage of tourists to Spain , namely by 19%.
Germany was, like in previous years, the third outbound market for Spain with 8% increase in the number of tourists in January 2014. Almost as much increase in the number of tourists was of the Nordic countries, who visited Spain in January 2014 , namely by 9%.
It is worth to highlight the significant increase in the number of tourists from Switzerland 21%, and the Russian tourist market , which retains its activity and even increased by 14 % during the first month of 2014.
The most popular autonomous region in Spain has become the Canary Islands, which were visited by more than 1 million of foreign tourists, 32 % of the total. At second place is situated Catalonia with 736,255 visits , a 13 % increase over last January and is 24% of the total number of foreign tourists visiting Spain. Closes the three leaders – the autonomous Region of Madrid with 347,999 visits, an increase of 12 % and 11% of the total.
