According to official data, the foreign tourists spent a record of 14.856.000 euros, by visiting Spain in the period from January to April this year.
Citizens of Germany, Great Britain and the Scandinavian countries of northern Europe were the main markets for tourism of Spain, and have contributed to this high rate of tourism expenses. The Canary Islands are the main destiny in Spain, where it was registered the most tourists spending. Average expense per tourist increased to 968 euros, and the average length of stay in Spain was extended to 8.7 nights.
Foreign tourists who visited Spain in January – April 2014 have brought to the local economy a record of 14,856,000 euros, up 11.2 % more compared to the same period in 2013, according to official statistics of tourism expenses Egatur, published yesterday by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism in Spain. Average expense per tourist increased by 1.8 % to 968 euros, while the average length of stay has lasted 8.7 nights. Only in April, the total tourism expenses have grown by 18.4 % to 4,790 thousands euros, which was made possible due to both an increase in the total number of foreign tourists by 13.2 % , and of the average flow rate for the trip to Spain by 4.6% to 910 euro. In contrast, the average daily consumption of foreign tourists in Spain fell by 2.4% to 108 euros. These figures were influenced by the fact that Easter this year was held in April, while in 2013 it was held in March.
In the first quarter of 2014 the main tourist markets for Spain have become the German citizens, who have spent more than 14.9% (2.539.000 euros) , UK – 12.8% more 2.583.000 euros) and Northern Europe – 13 ,7% more (1.999.000 euros ), than last year. French tourists expenses remained almost unchanged, with a slight increase of 0.4% (up to 1,424,000 euros).
The main tourist destiny of visitor spending have remained the Canary Islands of Spain, which accounts for 31.3 % of total expenses (4.657.000 euros) , an increase of 17% compared to last year. Catalonia has received 3,164,000 euros of tourism expenses, which is 7.5 % more than the same period of 2013.
