One of the most famous landmarks of Barcelona is in need of restoration of the facade. It is the pearl of modernism – La Pedrera House by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi.
This partial restoration, which includes cleaning the stone, balconies and lattices, as well as embedding of cracks appeared on the front, will be the third in the history of the house and will be similar to that which took place in 1988.
Restoration, which is necessary to maintain the beauty of the modernist building, which also is one of the trademarks of the city, will begin in January 2014 and will last about a year. The restoration project cost 750,000 euros, supported organization Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera, aims to preserve for future generations one of the most emblematic works of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi . It is impossible to underestimate its artistic and architectural value, internationally recognized with inclusion of La Pedrera on the List of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. La Pedrera is also declared as a cultural and historical monument of national heritage in Spain, as well as of Barcelona, for its uniqueness and originality, both in architectural and aesthetic sense.
Huge travel value of La Pedrera is confirmed by high annual statistics. During the past year the architectural masterpiece of Gaudi was visited by 1.5 million people. Among those who visited the house of La Pedrera – the majority has expressed interest to open to the public part of the building: first floor, patios, the roof overlooking the Paseo de Gracia and a special space dedicated to the author of La Pedrera – Antonio Gaudi. Others visited the temporary exhibitions, as well as numerous cultural events held in the building La Pedrera, and for which there are equipped classrooms, a conference room and other special spaces.
