The eighth month of 2013 was for the tourism sector in Spain is truly grand. All the evidence points to the fact that the country of jamon and the Mediterranean Sea is one of the most popular destinations in the world for holidays and visits.

The number of foreign tourists visiting Spain grew by 7.1%, while the total number of tourists for 2013 reached 42.3 million, representing an increase of 4.5 % compared with the same period last year. In August 2013 visited Spain 8.3 million foreign visitors, according to official statistics on border crossing, which leads Tourism Institute of Spain (Frontur), responsible state agency under the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. The report of the official statistics was published today.

The Ministry, under the chairmanship of José Manuel Soria, in his report highlighted the increase in the number of tourists from the Nordic countries, which are traditionally the main “suppliers” of tourists for Spain. The total number of tourists from northern Europe was 3.2 million, which is 18.1 % more than in the same period last year. These countries are: the United Kingdom with an increase of 4.8 % in the number who visited Spain from January to August 2013, the main incoming tourism market for the country of the Iberian Peninsula.

In the second place, as for the past many years, is Germany, with the increase in the number of tourists by 6.2 % in the first 8 months of 2013.

Among the autonomous regions that make up Spain, the palm of the number of foreign tourists visiting is for Catalonia. With its share of 26.1 % of the total number of foreign tourists, the biggest percentage. In addition, in August 2013 the number of foreign tourists, who prefer Catalonia, rose by 6.5%.

Behind Catalonia follow the Balearic Islands, with 19.7 % of the total number of tourists and with an increase of 8.3 % over the month of August.

In addition, the report by the Institute of Tourism indicated that prices in the tourist industry in Spain continue to decline, which is an important factor and a stimulus to the development of the main sector of the country.
