Each month this year, Spain registered a significant growth in the number of tourist arrivals. During the first 9 months of 2014 the number of foreign tourists increased by 10%, but at the same time, this increase does not meet the increased expenditures by foreign nationals who have chosen Spain for your stay. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Industry, the expenses per tourist declined by 1.1% in the first nine months of this year, which is far enough away from 10%, as it increased the number of tourists. Therefore, the World Tourism Organization (WTO) warned that for Spain the shopping tourism remains one of the most important things that Spain must improve to increase this figure. Spending by foreign tourists are crucial now because “is one of the engines, which will help restore the economy and create jobs in Spain and around the world,” – said the World Tourism Organization (OMT).
In the period from January to September 2014, the expenses of tourists through Spain Visa cards increased slightly, namely, at 1.12%. According to these data, it was recorded an increase in the spending of some of the of the most popular clients of the trade sector in Spain, as in the case of the Chinese, who represent 11% of total sales in the first nine months of 2013 and is already 13.6% in the same months this year. However, this growth, according to sources in the tourism sector, is due to increases in total spending of Chinese tourists in large busiest cities in the world and is not the result of specific policies designed specifically for this type of consumer. In fact, the Spanish Government, through the main tourist office is completing the development plan for shopping tourism, besides the classical participation in specialized fairs in Asia.
Furthermore, it is worth noting the growth of tourism expenditure in Spain of tourists from France, Great Britain, Germany, Norway and Russia.
