Spain was visited by 3.2 million foreign tourists in January 2015

Spain leads the all-time high of foreign tourist arrivals in January this year with record of 3 million visitors, an increase of 3.6% over the same month in 2014, according to official survey of tourist movements Frontera (Frontur), prepared by the Department of Statistics and Research of Tourism of Ministry of Industry of Spain.

Among the traditional suppliers of tourists to Spain dominate as usual the UK and Germany, which also improved its numbers from last year, while France and the Scandinavian countries have worsened.

In absolute terms, Italy made the most important contribution of additional tourists compared to January 2014, about 36,000 visitors, while in relative terms, the United States and Italy showed the highest annual growth rate, namely by 25% and 20%, respectively.

All regions of Spain showed an increase except Madrid, which remained stable. The Canary Islands have become the main Spanish autonomous community, which has received most foreign tourists in January 2015, and is followed by Catalonia and Andalusia. The largest growth was in the Balearic Islands (+ 20%) and in the region of Andalucia (+ 11%).

The United Kingdom of Great Britain, which remains an important market for Spain, recorded an increase of 4% in January 2015, namely 5,798,297 citizens of this country visited Spain, which accounted for 18% of the total.

In second place is France, which represents 15% of the total, but we can mention here the reduction of 3% of arrivals, total 4.784.53 visitors.

Germany, the third largest market, increased by 3% in the first month of 2015, up to 458,105 German tourists, and so capturing 14% of the total.

For its part, the Nordic countries have reduced by 6% in volume up to 351,522 visitors, while Italy, the fifth source market of tourists to Spain increased by 20% the number of arrivals up to 214,830 visitors, namely the 6% of total foreign tourists during the month of January.

The Canary Islands, an increase of 3%, captured the highest percentage of foreign visitors in the amount of over 1,000,000 people, 32% of the total, followed by Catalonia, with an increase of 1% and 23% of the number total arrivals, 746,948 people.

They are followed by Andalusia, with 371,524 tourists, 11% of the total, an increase of 11%, and the Community of Madrid with 347 760 tourists and 11% of the total, which is a stable figure compared to the previous year.

Moreover, Valencia grew 1% to 255,603 tourists, with 8% of total arrivals. While the Balearic Islands have increased the number of arrivals by 20% and reached 106,160 visitors, 9% of the total.
