The best touristic season in Spain since July 1995

  • Has increased notably the number of tourists from the Nordic countries, the UK and Russia.
  • In the first seven months of the year 2013 Spain was visited by 34 million foreign tourists.

In July 2013 Spain hosted 7.9 million tourists from the countries of the world, that presents an increase of 2.9% compared to last year. This is a new high recorded since 1995, according to data on tourist movements, released on Thursday by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism of Spain.
The department responsible for tourism statistics, and under the leadership of Jose Manuel Soria, noted a marked increase in the number of tourists from the Nordic countries, the UK and Russia, in the general flow of foreign tourists in Spain for 2013. Catalonia, Andalusia and the Balearic Islands have become the most popular provinces of Spain of tourists from these countries.
 In particular, 25.8% of the total number of tourists in Spain, chose Catalonia for your stay, which is 5.1% more than last year. In second place are the Balearic Islands with 18.4% of the total number of tourists, which is 7.5% more than last year. In third place is the Canary Islands, which took 5.8 million foreign tourists, 17.2% of the total, which is 0.9% more than in 2012. Andalusia, in fourth place in popularity, with 4.4 million tourists, 13% of the total and an increase of 3.6% compared to last year.
Total Spain visited 34 million foreign tourists from January to July 2013, a 3.9% increase over the same period in 2012.
Visitors from the UK increased their flow by 4.3%, while the citizens of Germany – by 5.2%, giving preference to the Canary and Balearic Islands.
According to the Spanish autonomies, official figures for July 2013 are listed as follows: Catalonia adopted in July, 2.1 million foreign tourists, up 3.1% over last year, while the visitors of Madrid fell by 10.7%, more part due to the decrease of tourists from Italy. Balearic Islands are located on the second place, with more than 2 million visits. In third place is the Andalusia, with an increase in tourists by 8.5% in July 2013 compared with July 2012.
