International tourists spent 21.809 million euros in the first five months of this year, during his trips to Spain, which is 8.4% more than the same period of 2014.
At the same time, the average daily expenditure increased by 4% to 116 euros, and the average expenditure per tourist increased by 3% to 968 euros, according to official data of the report on tourist spending Egatur, prepared by the Department of Statistics and Tourism Studies of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
In May 2015, the tourism spending by international visitors of Spain reached 5,890 million euros (+ 11%), which was the apparent result of an increase in the influx of tourists to Spain by 6%. The average expenditure per tourist achieved, meanwhile, the 905 euros (+ 4%), and the daily average expenditure – 114 euros (+ 4%).
Moreover, was recorded an increase in the expenses of American tourists to the 1,089 million euros, 25% more than last year and up to 5% of the total tourist expenditure.
The Canary Islands, Catalonia and Andalusia are the most visited regions of Spain.
In particular, the Spanish archipelago attracted 5.419 million euros, which is 24% of the total expenditure of international tourists arriving in Spain, up to 1% of the total amount.
Catalonia follows the Canary Islands, with 4,796 million euros, 22% of the total, an increase of 8% of travel expenses in the period from January to May 2015. In third place is situated Andalusia with 3,440 million euros, 10% more than last year.
The community of Madrid, which is situated in fourth place in the higher spending by foreign tourists, was the only Spanish province that marked the fastest pace of growth and received 2,505 million euros, an increase of 14% and 11% of total expenses of foreign visitors in Spain.
