The Festival of Fantastic Film in Sitges 2013

This Friday, October 11 in Sitges (Barcelona) begins 46 edition of the International Festival of Fantastic Cinema of Catalonia 2013, which will last until October 20. The festival will feature new works by international directors working in the genre of fantasy and science fiction.

For the visit to the festival has already sold 33,000 tickets, considerably more than a year ago, which amount is about 315,000 euros. This year, the festival, which will take place one day less than in 2012, 150 films will be shown with fantastic themed and programmed new events on the submitted works and films.

On the first night of the festival will be presented the film “Grand Piano” of Eugenio Mira, with Elijah Wood and John Cusack in the lead roles.

At a press conference on the presentation of the Festival program, attended by the Mayor of Sitges Miquel Forns, the festival director Angel Sala and cultural counselor of the Government of Catalonia, Ferran Mascarell , who pointed out that the organizers of the event are “very satisfied” with the successful sale of tickets, despite the fact that the festival will last one day less and no days off during the week, as the celebration on October 12 falls on Saturday.

Although this year's festival has less budget than in the past year, the event program is very extensive and is not deprived of innovations.

For interested viewers will be shown 150 films about vampires, zombies, science fiction and comedy with black humor. The directors of the film are as talented local artists, such as the filmmakers from countries not very famous for its cinematic glory. Their work is of particular interest to the public, according to the organizers of the International Festival of Fantastic Cinema of Catalonia 2013 in Sitges, because they are a reflection of current trends in world cinema.

For example, the film festival will feature works by filmmakers from Israel and the Philippine Islands.

In addition, this year a large role will be assigned to the animation from Japan, shown in short films with the help of mobile technology. Thus, the organizers emphasize its focus on the present and new technologies in cinema.

On the red carpet of the festival is expected to attend well-known artists from Spain, Catalonia and international celebrities.
