Tourism has again become the engine of the Spanish economy

During the first quarter of 2014 the tourism industry in Spain again demonstrates the excellent results and has increased by 4.2 % compared to last year. National tourism agency Exceltur submitted official data on the development and results of the most important sector of the economy.

Again, tourism has become the locomotive of the Spanish economy and continues to grow, and thus makes its indispensable contribution to the overall recovery of the local economy, which in turn has increased over the first quarter of 2014 by 0.4%.

The growth of the tourism industry in Spain was made possible by an increase in foreign demand, and at the same time, domestic demand also showed a positive evolution for the first time since the beginning of the economic crisis. Especially international impact was felt in the Canary Islands, where only in January and February 2014 was registered 1million overnights of foreign tourists more than in the same period last year.

Spain's tourist industry is an integral part of the Spanish economy, and once again demonstrates its great importance for the country.

In addition, a positive trend growth in the number of foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2014 is observed on the Costa del Sol, Barcelona and the Balearic island of Ibiza.

The main reason for the growth of tourism in Spain the international experts called the decline of tourist interest towards Egypt , which is currently experiencing unstable political situation. Besides this reason, also worth considering the improved economic situation in the countries which are the main issuing markets for Spain , such as the UK and Germany . The stable economic situation in these countries contributes to citizens' expenditures on travel journeys.

Most increased number of visitors was registered to Spain from Portugal, namely by 29%. At the same time, also increased the number of tourists from Russia, Austria , the Nordic countries, France, Switzerland and Italy.

National tourism agency Exceltur also noted positive behavior of the national tourist demand. Although the data is still weak and fragile, it is an optimistic sign that can not be ignored.
