The data presented this week by the official agency Exceltur show an increase in tourism activity in Spain for nine consecutive quarters. To be more precise, tourism in Spain during the second quarter of 2015 increased by 3.8% compared with the same period of 2014, and therefore, the most important sector of the country is growing for the ninth consecutive quarter with a rate more than 2.5% per month, according to data provided by Exceltur. The sun and the beach are the most popular tourist destinations in Spain.
The Exceltur agency, in its business balance for the period from April to June, as favorable factors highlights the "strong growth in demand" by the Spaniards, "the favorable economic conditions" in major markets like the United Kingdom or USA, and "distrust of tourists in the countries of the eastern Mediterranean Sea." Exceltur also added that as a catalyst for the Spanish tourism sector serves the decrease in oil prices.
The Executive Vice President of the agency Exceltur, Jose Luis Zoreda, said that domestic demand in percentage terms was "twice" more than the foreign demand during this period. Overall, during the current year 2015, all the indicators related to tourism trips of Spaniards are growing at a rate above 5%, said the director of studies and research group of Exceltur, Oscar Perelli.
Travel expenses of the Spaniards, according to Perelli, for the period January-June increased by 13.3%, which, in his opinion, is "good news that affects the good work" of tourist destinations. The foreign tourism has also shown a positive trend over the period from April to June 2015, with a record number of arrivals and overnight stays by tourists, but with a reduction in average spending per visitor.
Among the countries, we highlight the increase during the second quarter of 2015 in the number of tourists from France and Italy, 14.8% and 11.1%, respectively, due to the "instability of some of usual tourist markets" in North Africa. The United Kingdom increased its volume by 3.4%, which was favored, according to the agency Exceltur, by the depreciation of the euro and the "strength" of its economy. The United States has also increased the number of tourists by 9.2%.
